Even though we work primarily behind the scenes, preparing and delivering thousands of fresh, nutritious meals every day to homebound Atlantans suffering from critical or chronic illnesses, we have some very compelling stories to tell.

DINING OUT FOR LIFE TO BENEFIT OPEN HAND


ATLANTA - Dine out for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner April 22 at many of Atlanta's best restaurants and help Open Hand provide home-delivered meals and nutrition education to seniors and individuals living with diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, HIV/AIDS and cancer.

Restaurants that participate in Open Hand's 17th annual Dining Out for Life event donate a minimum of 20 percent of sales that day to Open Hand.

Dining Out for Life 2009 co-chairs are: Leigh Catherall, Open Hand Board member and Owner of Here to Serve Restaurants which include Aja, Home and LOLA; Chef Darryl Evans, and Harrison Rohr III, Director of Catering and Conference Services at soon-to-open St. Regis – Atlanta.

Open Hand, which recently commemorated its 20th year of service to the community, has grown from delivering 14 meals each day in 1988, to providing more than 5,000 meals daily across 17 counties in north Georgia. Ninety-one percent of Open Hand’s clients live at or below the federal poverty level.
